The Mom’s “Book Club”

Everywhere you look—there are book clubs.  A cool way to combine reading and conversation.  Usually it involves books.  I have been invited to join an unusual book club. It’s for Moms. Moms who run faster than a marathoner coordinating their families and work life. Mom’s who do not get a lot of “me” time.  This is the “book” club.

Five moms met last night after we all dropped our sons off at soccer practice.  We carpooled to a local restaurant most hadn’t been to: McFoster’s Natural Kind Café, an eclectic vegetarian restaurant with lots of character. It was great.  We read the MENU!  We sampled each other’s unique plates, and had combinations of foods most of us do not eat.  I had sweet potato fries (which are always good!) with banana ketchup.  It was really different—but great!  We sampled all sorts of vegetarian dishes—and chatted.  And sat still for one full hour!  It was great.

“Why is this important?”  you are thinking?  It was all summed up with one mom’s statement.  She is tired of the same 7 items she makes for her family all of the time!  She wanted to try something different—and get ideas on how to shake up her menu.  Don’t we all?!  Some of us are going to try grilled portabella mushrooms with spinach and feta cheese soon—because we discussed it, and thought it sounded great—and nutritious.

So—we all vowed to meet once a month to try out new cuisines and local restaurants.  And for an hour—slow down.  Good food and stress reduction are all good things.  I have always enjoyed reading—and this just kicks it up a notch!  Let me know if you start your own “book” club.
