Rain Rain Go Away!

Rain can be a friend or foe to a gardener. Last week it was definitely a foe! A few days it was close to 100 degrees (yes it’s May in Nebraska!) and then the rest of the week it rained like cats and dogs! Lows now in the upper 30’s! You have to love spring in the Midwest!

So, sorry to say, nothing got done in the beds last week. The seedlings I started at work are doing well—egg plant and broccoli. The rest of the seedlings are also doing great. Today, we placed mulch around the beds to keep them cool this summer, and planted our seeds—cucumbers, multi-colored beans and radishes, lettuce and carrots. The school aged kids in child care were a big help, as was Mrs. Cathy—the director. They are in charge of watering them this week. Hopefully the weather holds out and we get some of these seedlings planted this week yet. Rain is again in the forecast—oh my!
