Tasty Changes to a Healthier Summer

Does summertime mean ice cream time to you too? I love ending a summer day on our deck enjoying a bowl of ice cream and simply catching up with my husband. The moment the weather gets warm, we start this fun ritual.

Ice cream is a wonderful treat, but too many nights in a row sends the number on my scale creeping upwards. In my pursuit to find a healthier – but equally tasty frozen treat – I found this fabulous smoothie recipe that’s a hit!

Of course we still enjoy a tasty bowl of ice cream a couple times a week but we enjoy our smoothie nights just as much.

Give it a try! Need some motivation? Here you go:

Lots of taste but NO saturated fat!
Fat is an important part of our diet but saturated fat is the type we want to limit. A cup of ice cream has about 16 grams of fat and 10 grams are saturated fat. This smoothie has no fat or saturated fat.

Fiber helps you feel full!
Most Americans fall way short of the recommended 25 grams a day. Fiber helps you feel full. Each serving of this smoothie has 3 grams of fiber – compared to just 1 gram in a cup of ice cream.

Save a few calories.
One serving of this smoothie provides about 220 calories. One cup of ice cream (and who really eats just a cup?) provides about 300 calories. If you go for a cup of some of the premium ice creams, that can jump up to 540 calories.

And finally, did I mention it tastes great???
