First Time Gardener

Being a first time gardener was pretty satisfying. I can’t say I had a whole lot of expectations going into it because I knew my knowledge about growing vegetables was very minimal. I know a lot about the nutritional content of vegetables, but growing them was new territory for me. In late July, I tried to get the soil ready for planting. I purchased some compost and tried my best to work it into the soil. Then, I planted the seeds with great anticipation for what would (hopefully) sprout up. Every few days, I would go and check the garden. I feel a little silly admitting my excitement for my first garden, but I was proud of the fact that I was starting one. It was small, with only three vegetables: romaine lettuce, small round carrots, and spinach. I kept re-reading the seed packages to see how much longer I needed to wait before I’d have something edible. It was exciting to see the first sprouts of my romaine lettuce come up. At this point I was starting to feel a little more positive that this adventure would actually turn out with something to eat! The photo below was taken August 5th.
