Small Steps to Health and Wealth

New Years Day, 2009-millions of resolutions were made. Today, 75% of them have already been broken. The biggest problem when making resolutions is that people start out at full-throttle and then find it is too hard to maintain. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is here to help! They will be offering web seminars throughout the first half of the year to get you on your way. The secret to obtaining your goals is to do it a little at a time!

Do you want to get healthier and more financially secure in the years ahead? Perhaps lose some weight and save more for retirement? Participants will be led through a discussion of each strategy and encouraged to select 3 or 4 strategies to implement as part of a personal action plan. The content is based on the book, “Small Steps to Health and Wealth,” written by Rutgers Cooperative Extension faculty members.

The web seminars will:

  • Integrate health/nutrition and personal finance subject matter into each class.
  • Explore common behavior change strategies.
  • Motivate participants to improve their health.

To get a registration form, and learn more about this wonderful class, go to http://smallsteps.unl.edu. The cost of registration, including the workbook is $20. It is only $5 if materials are downloaded from the website and printed before each program. The programs start on January 29, 2009 and ends April 30, 2009. The best part of this class is that you never have to leave your computer to attend, and it is held over the lunch hour to make it more convenient!

I particularly like the portion size vs. serving size part of the “small step” website you referenced. What a good reminder!
