What Recipe?

Recipes, Recipes, Recipes!!! There are more recipes than any one person could possibly follow in their life time. When everyone starts out learning how to cook they follow a “recipe”. I will admit that I am one that often follows recipes. Growing up I watched my Grandma and Mom whip up a storm in the kitchen and not have a recipe in front of them. I always wondered how they did it. Well, now I think I know. They had many food items that they made so often that they did not need a written recipe to achieve a consistent end result.

This week it was the same for me. I looked at the activities that we had planned and what items were in the blue bag I decided that I didn’t really need to follow a written recipe. As you can see from the feature image I had many items that would go great for tailgating and salsa making. – Sweet Corn – Onions – Tomatoes – Hot Peppers –   So this week I was winging it with a couple of salsa dishes that will taken to a weekly tailgating party.

The first was tomato salsa. When I make my tomato salsa I start with a base of tomatoes (chopped), onion (chopped),  red pepper (chopped), any hot pepper that you have on hand (chopped), and then season with lime, cilantro, cumin, garlic, salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar.

The second was black bean and corn salsa. I started with grilled corn on the cob, a can of black beans, onion (chopped), any hot pepper you have on hand (chopped), and then season with lime, cilantro, cumin, salt and pepper.

No matter what you make, always remember to wash your produce before you use it.
