The Sights, Sounds, and Tastes of Maine

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Portland, Maine for the annual National Extension Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) conference.  This year I am serving as the Nebraska affiliate president.  So I figured it was my duty to make this trip.  Portland, Maine, has been described as a Foodies Paradise.  We had a great time enjoying the sights, sounds, and tastes of Maine.

The first night we enjoyed dinner at a lobster pound in Freeport, Maine.
Lobster doesn’t get any fresher than this.  This dinner was a lot of work.
The lobster had a rubbery texture but dipping it into melted butter made
it very tasty.  The meal was served with corn on the cob and boiled
red potatoes.

Portland, Maine was voted America’s Foodies Town in 2009.

The second night we ate at Local 188.  They serve foods that are fresh
and local.  This is the mission of many of Portland restaurants.
Pictured above is grilled moro flat bread with roasted red pepper
hummus.  SO good.  I also had a shrimp pasta dish but it didn’t
photograph well.

On our state’s night out we enjoyed
great meals at Bibo’s Madd Apple
Cafe.  Above is my meal, Maine Crab
and Lobster Cakes.  Many of the
other ladies enjoyed Seafood Risotto.
For dessert I had a to die for peach
tart with homemade cinamon ice
cream.
To my delight, ice cream was very abundant in Maine!
Between all the eating I enjoyed a great conference.
