The Other White Meat

This is a re-creation of my turkey sliders, as my family ate my original examples!
By posting this recipe I am entering a recipe contest sponsored by National Honey Board and am eligible to win prizes associated with the contest. I received a gift card to offset the expense of my ingredients.
At this time of the year, it seems like people are serving pulled pork or taco bars for graduation parties or other get togethers as the main course. I love them both, but wanted to bring something different for my Godchild’s baptism recently. I invented my own recipe for shredded honey turkey sliders. Most people try a new recipe out at home before taking it for company, but not me! I’m game for anything!
I placed a full turkey breast in the crock pot with a packet of Italian dressing mix, a half cup of honey, and a box of low sodium chicken broth. I let it cook all day. When I got home (after 9 plus hours), I took out the turkey, shredded it, and placed it back in the juice in a shallow container to cool it down. The next day I placed the turkey back in the crock pot with the juice and warmed it on low. I took the whole crock pot to the baptism, and served it on slider buns with a side of BBQ sauce if anyone absolutely had to have BBQ.
I have never heard so many compliments on my turkey! Even my husband, who doesn’t like turkey enjoyed it! I think the secret ingredient that kept it moist and added flavor was the honey. It added a touch of sweetness without adding fat or a lot of calories. The flavor was subtle, yet very yummy! If I had used a local honey, it would have given it yet a little different flavor. Honey is a very versatile ingredient that can be used in both sweet and savory dishes. I plan on cooking my Thanksgiving turkey the exact same way! This is something that can be used easily for entertaining large amount of guests.
Shredded Honey Turkey Sliders

- 1 package dry Italian salad dressing mix
- 1-32 ounce box low sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 cup honey
Place ingredients in a slow cooker or crock pot. Start on high for one hour. Turn down to low,and cook for at least another 6-8 hours. Take out of broth and shred turkey. Place in a shallow container with broth and cool quickly. Place in refrigerator over night for flavors to meld. Place shredded turkey and juice back in crock pot or slow cooker and turn on low to reheat. Serve on slider buns. Can serve lettuce leaves and tomato slices as condiments. BBQ sauce or mayo are also great sides.
