{"id":9636,"date":"2013-11-08T22:58:40","date_gmt":"2013-11-08T22:58:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/?p=9636"},"modified":"2013-11-08T22:58:40","modified_gmt":"2013-11-08T22:58:40","slug":"thanksgiving-preparation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/c\/thanksgiving-preparation\/","title":{"rendered":"Thanksgiving Preparation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s time to start talking turkey!\u00a0 Halloween is over, and everyone&#8217;s thoughts head towards Thanksgiving.\u00a0 My nine year old says that Thanksgiving is the lost holiday crammed between Halloween and Christmas that everyone forgets.\u00a0 I&#8217;m starting to think he&#8217;s right.\u00a0 They have started playing Christmas music before Halloween.\u00a0 Will they start advertising for Easter in December?\u00a0 Sorry&#8211;that&#8217;s a whole other blog article!<\/p>\n<p>In our family, Thanksgiving is all about tradition.\u00a0 My mom makes the most wonderful pumpkin pies and dressing, and of course&#8211;homemade rolls.\u00a0 My siblings and I bring side dishes and the fruit\/vegetable tray.\u00a0 Everyone brings their favorite beverage to share.\u00a0 We share family favorites that we do not have at any other time of the year.\u00a0 I always bring my Mother-in-laws sweet potatoes&#8217; recipe, and her green bean recipe.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the one with 3 pounds of Velveeta in it.\u00a0 This recipe has been in past blogs if you are brave enough to give them a try!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9639\" style=\"border: 3px solid black; margin: 3px;\" alt=\"blog 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-2-300x257.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-2-300x257.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-2.jpg 584w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When looking at our traditional meal, I didn&#8217;t want to change anything, so I added a few things instead.\u00a0 For example, I found this wonderful recipe from King Arthur Flour for <a title=\"New England Thanksgiving Bread\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kingarthurflour.com\/recipes\/new-england-thanksgiving-bread-recipe\" target=\"_blank\">New England Thanksgiving Bread<\/a>.\u00a0 I gave it a try last night&#8211;it turned out fine&#8211;just needed to rise longer than I decided to let it.\u00a0 It was tasty for breakfast.\u00a0 Maybe this could be added instead of dinner rolls to your menu?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9641\" style=\"border: 3px solid black; margin: 3px;\" alt=\"blog 3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-3-300x250.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-3-300x250.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-3.jpg 621w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The other recipe was sent to me via Facebook from a friend.\u00a0 It was a <a title=\"Baked Oatmeal recipe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myrecipes.com\/recipe\/baked-oatmeal-10000000549848\/\" target=\"_blank\">Baked Oatmeal <\/a>recipe from Cooking Light in 2003.\u00a0 It was being reposted by MyRecipes for <a title=\"Let's Move\" href=\"http:\/\/www.letsmove.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Let&#8217;s Move<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 In short&#8211;that means that it is healthier.\u00a0 I was thinking Thanksgiving morning, this would be terrific.\u00a0 Served warm or cold, it is a great dish.\u00a0 I am going to add it to our day, so I won&#8217;t be tempted to knosh before dinner!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/blog-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9643\" style=\"border: 3px solid black;
