Great Diabetes Meals from Market to Table.\u00a0 That means choosing vegetables, fruits, lean meats, whole grains, healthy fats, and limited sweets.<\/li>\n<li>Control Portions.\u00a0 People with diabetes can enjoy traditional recipes as long as the portions are reasonable.<\/li>\n<li>Add veggies whenever possible.\u00a0 For example, spike a favorite dip with diced tomatoes, or toss in extra veggies when a recipe calls for it.<\/li>\n<li>Use herbs and spices.\u00a0 Use herbs and spices in place of salt is a great way to liven up your food and decrease your sodium intake.<\/li>\n<li>Return to simplicity.\u00a0 For side dishes prepare simple saut\u00e9d or roast vegetables to let natural flavors to shine.<\/li>\n<li>Switch to low-fat dairy.\u00a0 To lower you intake of unhealthy saturated fats modify recipes by using low-fat dairy ingredients such as reduced fat cream cheese, Greek yogurt and nonfat milk.<\/li>\n<li>Offer Variety.\u00a0 Along with tradition desserts, place a bowl of fruit salad on the table for guests who want a healthier option.\u00a0 Offer appetizers such as hummus dip with vegetables, as well as calorie free beverages.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <a title=\"American Diabetes Association Recipes\" href=\"http:\/\/www.diabetes.org\/food-and-fitness\/food\/recipes\/index.jsp?loc=DropDownFF-recipies&amp;page=2\">American Diabetes Association web site<\/a> provides great recipes and even meal plans for the holidays.\u00a0 Here is a sample of one of their recipes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Party Shrimp with Cilantro Dip<br \/>\n16 servings<br \/>\n<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7822\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/party-dip-cilantro-dip.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7822\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7822\" alt=\"Photo: Dan Whipps; In a small food processor, mix the garlic, cilantro, green pepper, cumin, salt, and red pepper flakes, pausing to scrape the sides. Add the vinegar and oil, and puree until smooth. Spoon the dip into a small serving bowl; set aside (chill in the refrigerator if not serving right away).<br \/>\n2. In a large bowl, combine the shrimp, cumin, paprika, coriander, garlic powder, chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.<br \/>\n3. In a large skillet or wok, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and saut\u00e9 for 5 to 8 minutes, until the shrimp turn pink and are no longer translucent. If you need to cook the shrimp in two batches, cook them for about 3 to 5 minutes per batch, until the shrimp are pink. Add the shrimp to a serving bowl.<br \/>\n4.
