{"id":4540,"date":"2012-11-08T08:00:59","date_gmt":"2012-11-08T14:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/wordpress\/?p=4540"},"modified":"2013-08-07T12:40:38","modified_gmt":"2013-08-07T12:40:38","slug":"thanksgiving-disasters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/b\/thanksgiving-disasters\/","title":{"rendered":"Thanksgiving Disasters!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanksgiving is fast approaching.\u00a0 Are your favorite recipes out?\u00a0 Turkeys are out in the grocery stores.\u00a0 Did you see the stuffing end cap last weekend?\u00a0 You cannot miss it.\u00a0 As soon as Halloween is over\u2014whoosh!\u00a0 Here\u2019s Thanksgiving!\u00a0 My son thinks it\u2019s the forgotten holiday, as we go from Halloween to Christmas stuff in the stores.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s NOT what this post is about.\u00a0 It\u2019s about being human.\u00a0 There is a lot of pressure to continue family traditions and recipes, and do things \u201cjust right\u201d for the holidays.\u00a0 As a dietitian who loves to cook, and teaches food safety\u2014the holidays always make my family laugh\u2014at the memories of my food blunders!\u00a0 After 49 years\u2014I have decided that come what may\u2014the reason the day is special is not what you are eating\u2014but who you are with!<\/p>\n<p>Yet\u2014if you still need a good laugh today\u2014check out these personal blunders!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The year I tried to impress my new Mother-in-law by making homemade whipped cream, and didn\u2019t know you had to add sugar and vanilla!\u00a0 Crisco tastes better!<\/li>\n<li>The next year I purchased Cool Whip\u2014and the dog jumped up on the table and ate the pie!<\/li>\n<li>The year my thermometer was not calibrated, and my turkey was over-done by at least an hour.<\/li>\n<li>The year I made cheesy potatoes with expired sour cream and made everyone sick.\u00a0 Try explaining that if you are the food safety Nazi!\u00a0 Was not aware it had expired!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I could go on.\u00a0 Believe me\u2014my family could!\u00a0 The whole point is\u2014cut yourself a break.\u00a0 Maybe you start a new tradition and have pizza on the living room floor for Thanksgiving if food isn\u2019t your thing!\u00a0 Happy Thanksgiving!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanksgiving is fast approaching.\u00a0 Are your favorite recipes out?\u00a0 Turkeys are out in the grocery stores.\u00a0 Did you see the stuffing end cap last weekend?\u00a0 You cannot miss it.\u00a0 As soon as Halloween is over\u2014whoosh!\u00a0 Here\u2019s Thanksgiving!\u00a0 My son thinks it\u2019s the forgotten holiday, as we go from Halloween to Christmas stuff in the stores.
