{"id":3226,"date":"2011-06-29T08:41:56","date_gmt":"2011-06-29T14:41:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/wordpress\/?p=3226"},"modified":"2013-08-08T14:29:15","modified_gmt":"2013-08-08T14:29:15","slug":"its-picking-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/e\/its-picking-time\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Picking Time!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love this time of year with warm weather, long days,\u00a0and lots of time spent outdoors.\u00a0 I also get excited for our family tradition of heading to pick-your-own farms.\u00a0 As a kid, I have so many fond memories of going strawberry picking in the early summer and apple picking in the fall.\u00a0 My parents would pack a picnic lunch and we\u2019d spend the day picking apples or strawberries and enjoying the great outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve continued this tradition with my kids.\u00a0\u00a0Both of our kids\u00a0were picking apples and peaches before they turned one.\u00a0 We\u2019ve since added raspberry and strawberry picking to the list.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t sure if my daughter would like strawberry picking since it gets hot out in the field, but she loved it!\u00a0 She was so determined to find strawberries that she couldn\u2019t even stop to look at the camera for a picture.\u00a0 She was willing to hold up a strawberry as long as I didn&#8217;t make her\u00a0take her eyes off the plants.\u00a0 She was so proud of the strawberries she picked and could hardly wait to eat them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Strawberry Picking\" alt=\"Strawberry Picking\" src=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Strawberry.jpg\" width=\"336\" height=\"448\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A trip to a pick-your-own farm is a great way to encourage children to eat fruits and vegetables.\u00a0 It&#8217;s amazing how excited kids are to eat fruit that\u00a0they&#8217;ve picked themselves.<\/p>\n<p>To find a pick-your-own farm in your area, go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickyourown.org\" target=\"_blank\">www.pickyourown.org<\/a>.\u00a0 In our area, we can pick strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, apricots, plums, pears, and nectarines.\u00a0 We\u2019re eagerly awaiting opening day of cherry picking.\u00a0 They looked so pretty but weren&#8217;t quite ripe when we were strawberry picking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Cherry trees\" alt=\"Cherry trees\" src=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/cherries.jpg\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Do you have a fun family tradition that encourages kids to eat fruits and vegetables?\u00a0 We&#8217;d love to hear your ideas.\u00a0 Just click &#8220;Comment&#8221;
