{"id":3001,"date":"2011-03-16T07:00:21","date_gmt":"2011-03-16T13:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/wordpress\/?p=3001"},"modified":"2013-08-08T15:12:05","modified_gmt":"2013-08-08T15:12:05","slug":"nutritional-clutter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/g\/nutritional-clutter\/","title":{"rendered":"Nutritional Clutter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s spring cleaning time again.\u00a0 This is when we are encouraged to clean our homes and remove clutter\/build-up from the long winter.\u00a0 Hopefully you are not a candidate for the hoarders\u00a0shows t hat are on TV now!\u00a0 Stuff can build up.\u00a0 When this happens, it\u2019s hard to get motivated to do anything.\u00a0 It\u2019s the same way with trying to get in shape.\u00a0 It gets overwhelming\u2014and where do you start?\u00a0 It\u2019s easier to go home and plop on the couch and\u00a0 do nothing.<\/p>\n<p>The confusion starts with all of the information that we are fed daily by the media.\u00a0 Last week, eggs were \u201cbad,\u201d this week they are \u201cgood.\u201d\u00a0 Who do you believe?\u00a0 Start with the latest <a title=\"Dietary Guidelines\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnpp.usda.gov\/dietaryguidelines.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Dietary Guidelines <\/a>.\u00a0 They are a good rule of thumb to use when looking at your physical wellness.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Balance your calories.\u00a0 Enjoy your food\u2014they all fit.\u00a0 Just monitor portion sizes.\u00a0 Don\u2019t super-size your take out.\u00a0 A serving of pasta is one cup\u2014not a platter full!<\/li>\n<li>Increase the intake of certain foods.\u00a0 Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.\u00a0 Use skim or low-fat dairy products.\u00a0 Make 50% of your carbohydrates whole grain.\u00a0 Give soy a try.\u00a0 Choose lower fat cuts of beef and pork.<\/li>\n<li>Decrease other foods.\u00a0 Choose foods lower in sodium and fat.\u00a0 Decrease the amount of sugary drinks consumed.\u00a0 Choose oils over solid fats.<\/li>\n<li>Exercise.\u00a0 Just move.\u00a0 You burn more calories standing then sitting.\u00a0 You might as well be moving if you are standing!\u00a0 Aim for 30 minutes most days or 60 minutes if you are a kid.<\/li>\n<li>Relax.\u00a0 In this busy day and age, we forget to take five minutes to regroup and relax\u2014enjoy things.\u00a0 Quiet is not bad!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There\u2014that\u2019s easy enough.\u00a0 Now this clutter is cleared away and you can cross it off your list!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Marcg-blog2-0021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3015\" style=\"margin: 3px;
