{"id":2306,"date":"2010-06-30T08:00:24","date_gmt":"2010-06-30T14:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/wordpress\/?p=2306"},"modified":"2013-08-21T20:05:24","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T20:05:24","slug":"we-be-jammin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/e\/we-be-jammin\/","title":{"rendered":"We Be Jammin!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My cousin gave me a jar of homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam last fall.\u00a0 I had forgotten about it until around Christmas.\u00a0 I opened it and used it with peanut butter for breakfast.\u00a0 It immediately brought me back to my childhood days camping with my Aunt Susie.\u00a0 She always brought this type of jam!\u00a0 It was terrific.\u00a0 I hoarded the entire jar!\u00a0 I even worked this jam into my Weight Watcher\u2019s points!\u00a0 (It really is that good!)<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to help Nancy (I was the chief bottle washer and strawberry cleaner) teach a group of 4-Her\u2019s and their Mothers and Grandmothers.\u00a0 They made strawberry lemon preserves and apple jelly.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure who learned more\u2014the kids or their Mom\u2019s\/Grandmothers?\u00a0 I learned how to substitute liquid pectin for powdered pectin.\u00a0 The jam was again\u2014very yummy!<\/p>\n<p>Since Christmas, my mind has been on this jam.\u00a0 So when a good friend offered me some rhubarb earlier this spring\u2014I snapped it right up!\u00a0 I cleaned it and froze it.\u00a0 When strawberries went on sale last week\u2014I dove in and made about 2 dozen jars of strawberry-rhubarb jam.\u00a0 It\u2019s not the prettiest jam\u2014but everyone at my house loves it\u2014so I guess I\u2019ll have to share!\u00a0 \u00a0The best place to find SAFE canning recipes is either the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freshpreserving.com\" target=\"_blank\">Ball Blue Book<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0or the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uga.edu\/nchfp\/publications\/publications_usda.html\" target=\"_blank\">USDA\u2019s Complete Guide to Home Canning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the recipe I used\u2014enjoy!<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2310 alignright\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;
