{"id":2242,"date":"2010-06-09T10:00:28","date_gmt":"2010-06-09T16:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/wordpress\/?p=2242"},"modified":"2013-08-21T20:10:14","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T20:10:14","slug":"choline-the-hot-new-pregnancy-nutrient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/e\/choline-the-hot-new-pregnancy-nutrient\/","title":{"rendered":"Choline \u2013 The Hot New Pregnancy Nutrient"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year at this time I was pregnant and I didn\u2019t give the nutrient, choline much attention.\u00a0 After attending a conference last week I wish I would have.\u00a0 Choline started to get the interest of nutrition researchers when it was found that fetal rats whose mothers didn&#8217;t get enough choline in their diets had less brain development and poorer memories after birth than those whose mothers ate adequate amounts of the nutrient.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.expectthebestpregnancy.com\/\">Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD, the author of Expect the Best<\/a>, states in her book that choline is essential for the normal functioning of all cells, especially those in the brain, the liver, and the central nervous system.\u00a0 Choline works in tandem with folic acid to promote proper nervous systems development during pregnancy.
