{"id":1582,"date":"2009-11-09T13:33:29","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T19:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/wordpress\/?p=1582"},"modified":"2013-08-21T21:42:43","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T21:42:43","slug":"these-arent-your-parents-tv-dinners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/e\/these-arent-your-parents-tv-dinners\/","title":{"rendered":"These Aren&#8217;t Your Parent&#8217;s TV Dinners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m on a mission to find decent, nutritious meals that can be made in a matter of minutes.\u00a0 With two small children and a full time job, I have even had to push my \u201cMeals in 30 Minutes\u201d cookbook aside. \u00a0These days thirty minutes to cook or bake is not always do-able. \u00a0Thus, I have started to dabble with \u201cTV Dinners,\u201d (also called frozen meals, frozen dinners, microwave meals or ready-made meals).\u00a0 TV dinners were introduced by Swanson in the 1950s and got their name because the package featured an image of a TV set and families would often eat them in front of the TV.<\/p>\n<p>TV Dinners have come a long way in the last 50 years.\u00a0 For the rest of the article I will refer to TV Dinners as frozen meals.\u00a0 There are hundreds of frozen meals available at your grocery store and many of them are marketed as being healthy or promoting weight loss.<\/p>\n<p>My experience with frozen meals is limited but I did find one that I really like, Lasagna Florentine from Smart Ones.\u00a0 In an attempt to find more frozen meals that would please my taste buds I decided to survey my co-workers and post a question on my Facebook page asking for everyone\u2019s favorite frozen meal.\u00a0 I was surprised at how many people quickly responded with an answer.\u00a0 The two brands that most people had favorites from were Weight Watcher\u2019s Smart Ones and Lean Cuisine.\u00a0 Other brands listed were from Healthy Choice, Marie Callender\u2019s, Kashi, Amy\u2019s Kitchen, and one person said Swanson\u2019s Hungry Man.\u00a0 Ironically out of all the responses only two people listed the same frozen meal as their favorite, which was Lean Cuisines Panini\u2019s, without naming a specific flavor.\u00a0 Here are some of the responses I received from brands that focus on creating nutritious frozen meals:<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 588px; Stuffing<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>While grocery shopping I did a quick cost analysis of the average cost of popular individual sized frozen meals.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 588px;
