What meal do you fall back on when you don&#8217;t have anything planned?\u00a0 This is the question I posed to 10 of my dietitian colleagues and friends.\u00a0 There were definitely some trends in what dietitians cook when in a crunch.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The number one answer is&#8230;SPAGHETTI!<br \/>\nFour out of ten dietitians answered spaghetti or pasta.\u00a0 Spaghetti with tomato sauce (meat or meatless) was by far the most popular quick meal to put on the table.\u00a0 It was often served with a salad.\u00a0 Another easy pasta dish mentioned was pasta mixed with cooked frozen veggies and then sprinkled with cheese.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Spaghetti\" src=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/spaghetti.jpg\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A popular answer for my dietitian friends with families&#8230;BREAKFAST!<br \/>\nBoth of my friends who each have three kids answered breakfast.\u00a0 One of them, a cooking guru, makes pancakes, French toast, or waffles from scratch.\u00a0 Her family also enjoys eggs including omelets, egg sandwiches, and scrambled eggs.\u00a0 With the increased price of eggs, she did mention they are a less frequent meal for her family than in the past.\u00a0 My other friend with three girls makes oatmeal with Craisins, brown sugar, almonds or walnuts, and milk for her oldest daughter and herself.\u00a0 The two year old prefers cold cereal, while the youngest is content breastfeeding.\u00a0 Fresh or canned fruit is served too.\u00a0 If they&#8217;re not in the mood for cereal, scrambled eggs and toast or pancakes with peanut butter and bananas or applesauce are a hit.\u00a0 Eggs were also mentioned by another friend who likes veggie and cheese omelets.<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Pancakes\" src=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/pancakes.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"179\" border=\"0\" \/><\/td>\n<td>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Waffles\" src=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/waffles.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"177\" border=\"0\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>A popular genre of food&#8230;MEXICAN!<br \/>\nFajitas and quesadillas were popular.\u00a0 Two of my friends are fajita fans &#8211; and after reading their recipes, I&#8217;m a fan too!\u00a0 One grills chicken and whatever veggies she has on hand and serves it in a whole wheat tortilla.\u00a0 She tops it with shredded Mexican cheese and a bit of low fat sour cream.\u00a0 The other friend makes a Southwestern Fajita with canned chicken breast, canned black beans, frozen corn, salsa, low fat cream cheese, and 2% cheddar cheese.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve posted her recipe below because it sounds great!<\/p>\n<p>Popular with my friends outside Nebraska&#8230;<br \/>\nMy friend in New York always has veggie burgers in her freezer.\u00a0 She serves veggie burgers with a salad or cooked vegetables.\u00a0 My friend in North Carolina pours herself a bowl of cereal with skim\u00a0milk when in\u00a0a pinch.<\/p>\n<p>And a few more ideas that made the list&#8230;<br \/>\nSandwiches are definitely popular, with suggestions including: Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup; Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich and a glass of milk; and Turkey &amp; Swiss Cheese Wraps.<\/p>\n<p>Dietitians don&#8217;t skip dessert.\u00a0 The most popular dessert among dietitians&#8230;FRUIT!<br \/>\nNot only do we promote fruit as dessert to others, we enjoy it as dessert ourselves!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Grapes\" src=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/grapes.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"10\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Did you notice a trend?<br \/>\nEach of the meals my dietitian friends mentioned included a fruit or vegetable or both.\u00a0 Frozen vegetables are a great way to ensure you always have healthy vegetables on hand.\u00a0 Research shows that fresh and frozen vegetables are equal in nutritional value.\u00a0 Fresh fruit that&#8217;s in season is always tasty.\u00a0 Fruit canned in light syrup or juice is easy to have in the cupboard and is also a great option.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s your favorite meal?<br \/>\nShare your meal by posting a comment.<\/p>\n<p><span>Recipe for\u00a0<\/span>Southwestern Fajita<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a title=\"Southwestern Fajita Recipe\" href=\"https:\/\/nutritionknowhow.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/southwestern-fajita.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">&#8211;
