A Different New Year’s Resolution

This week a reporter from our local newspaper called me about a New Year’s article he was writing. What can a person do to make their lives better for 2013 besides the same old weight loss, more exercise, stop smoking blah blah blah he asked? It took only a second for me to respond! Not because I am quick on my feet, but because I had given this some thought recently.
I always strive to lead a healthier life—it is a given. More exercise and eating better—yep—it’s on my list again. But for 2013—I have placed something else there too! My goal is to spend more time on what is important in my life, and less time doing things that just fill it up. For example, I want to spend more time with family and friends that I see infrequently, and less time muddling through paper work. Eating healthy and exercise falls in this realm also! If it’s important to me to be healthy—then I need to make time to do it! More smiles, less grimaces. I stopped my busy life last week to have lunch with an old friend. At first, I thought it would be hard to squeeze it in, but when I looked at it from the stand point that I was not squeezing it in, but making time for somebody important, it was just fine! The laundry and the vacuuming were still there when I got home! As were my kids. It was a wonderful couple of hours! And I was in the moment while there—not worrying about what I had to do next or looking at my cell phone! Life needs to slow down so we can enjoy it. My husband asked where Christmas vacation went—and I told him we blinked!
I challenge you this week to make time for what is important in your life—and be in the moment. Put the cell phone and Ipad down—and be with a human! Smile, and breath! It’s all good! Happy 2013 from The Nutrition Know How team!

What a wonderful resolution it is! I am inspired after reading your post. Procrastinating important things and work is my bad habit, which I will stop now onwards and will spend more time on what is important in my life.
